WHAT IS IT? Return to Top

It's a self-serve database of the world's organisations.

go2wo is vast - it's probably the Internet's largest portal of links to organisations.
go2wo is simple - it contains no javascripts or cookies, and graphics are kept simple and to a minimum.
go2wo has a global focus - it lists the world's largest organisations.
go2wo has a local focus - it lists organisations in your local community.
go2wo is invaluable - where else can you find so much information like this?
go2wo is free - free to search, free to look, and free to add your own organisation.
go2wo is for grown-ups - retrieve serious, substantial information about real organisations.
go2wo is for kids at heart - rediscover the world.
go2wo is powerful - you can find organisations and places anywhere using maps, links, searches or indexes.
go2wo is easy to use - simply point-and-click to burrow down, rise above, jump across, or fly about.

HOW DOES IT WORK? Return to Top (Go to top)

Simple: Click and go2wo!

Each new page opens to a new location (which may be a city, state, country, region, or the world).
The map shows - in red - your current location. Click on it to reveal a larger map, and then on that map to go to places nearby.
On the left hand menu, for each location, there are links for:
  • Government Organisations
  • Non-Government Organisations
  • Community Organisations
  • Cultural Organisations
  • Sports & Leisure Organisations
  • Travel Organisations
  • Research Organisations
  • Media Organisations
  • Business Organisations
  • Finance Organisations
On the right hand menu, you can check out local Facts and Directories, go to a Larger Region, or go to The World.
Also on the right hand menu, there's an alphabetic Index of Places and PicoSearch™ for searching the entire go2wo site.
To search the web, we've provided you with Google™ search, currently the very best search engine available.

Useful Hints:
To go straight to a location, just add it to the web address. For example, try www.go2wo.com/new_york_state.
Use the right hand slide bar to quickly peruse the whole page.
Click on the go2wo logo on any page to go to the home page.
Use Netscape or Opera browsers - they are faster and more reliable.

LOCAL FACTS Return to Top (Go to top)

Here you'll find some interesting information about the place you're currently searching -- things like geography, demographics, the economy, history, form of government, population, land area, languages and religions, per capita GDP, industries and exports, literacy, life expectancy, and so on and so on.

For more detailed information, including statistics and data, you should also check out our Sources and also what may be listed under Research.

Sources

These are where we get some of our information. Don't believe everything we tell you. Always check your facts elsewhere. Learn to be critical of sources. Indeed, some people insist there's no such thing as a "fact".

OUR MAP Return to Top (Go to top)

Here's where we provide you with a simple map of the place. It's meant as a quick orientation only, so we provide you with links to other places in and around it. Just one click on the map gets you to those other locations. You can literally surf the world!

LARGER REGION Return to Top (Go to top)

Each location has a larger region (except the World -- so far we've limited ourselves to planet Earth). Just click on this link to "zoom out" to the larger region. (For instance, Gabon ... is in Central Africa ... is in Africa ... is in The World.)

LOCAL DIRECTORIES Return to Top (Go to top)

These may be all you ever need. Please feel free to use us and then dump us if you like. We won't hide the "competition" ... we reveal it. Portals, indexes, area and city guides, search engines, phone directories ... places that specialise in places. We reckon, that way, you'll keep coming back -- 'cos you trust us.

GOVERNMENT ORGANISATIONS Return to Top (Go to top)

Here you'll find the people who govern and make laws and apply them, and others who work on behalf of the government. It includes the executive and the legislature, ministries, agencies, the judiciary, the armed forces, and the bureaucracy of government. And this is also where you'll find government organisations that connect with other governments (called "inter-government" organisations).

NON-GOVERNMENT ORGANISATIONS Return to Top (Go to top)

Not everyone interested in government works for a government. For instance, there are those who monitor good governance, human rights and civil liberties, there are political parties and movements, lobbyists, activists, environmentalists, labour unions, humanitarian aid groups, and there are many others who otherwise work closely with and around governments. They're all here.

COMMUNITY ORGANISATIONS Return to Top (Go to top)

These are not-for-profit organisations that serve the needs of the community. They include educational oganisations (libraries, schools, colleges and universities), public health, safety and security organisations (police, fire and hospitals), religions and religious organisations, men's, women's, children's and youth organisations, community service organisations, professional associations and societies, and many others of a largely non-political nature.

CULTURAL ORGANISATIONS Return to Top (Go to top)

Culture is all pervasive, but here we focus on groups that promote both specific cultures (through ethnicity, language, heritage, and public display and performance) and broader cultural activities (such as the fine arts, literature, music, dance, film, theatre, architecture, and design). It is here that you'll find museums and representative organisations.

SPORTS & LEISURE ORGANISATIONS Return to Top (Go to top)

Sports and leisure are important aspects of life and living. That's why we've given them their own space. Organised sports and sporting associations, competitions, and leisure activities, interests and hobbies are listed here, as are the media which focus on these activities.

TRAVEL ORGANISATIONS Return to Top (Go to top)

go2wo is not just another accommodation guide. (Remember, we are about organisations.) You'll find official guides and advice, local attractions, transport (including railways, airlines, bus companies, and car hire companies), travel agents and tour organisers, and - yes - even accommodation guides, hotel chains, and individual places to stay.

RESEARCH ORGANISATIONS Return to Top (Go to top)

Ok, so we're not always just about organisations. Here, apart from scientific, social, economic and political research institutes, you'll also find a large array of sources of statistics and data about government, the economy, geography, demography and society.

MEDIA ORGANISATIONS Return to Top (Go to top)

"Media" is more than just newspapers, magazines, journals, television and radio. We include any organisation that disseminates information, including book publishers and distributors. And those who represent those who do so. And we also reckon that information can be entertaining (hey, that's why we're here!), so entertainment companies can also be found here.

BUSINESS ORGANISATIONS Return to Top (Go to top)

Corporations are organisations, indeed some of the biggest in the world. They must be included here. Any organisation that resources, designs, manufactures, distributes, trades or sells, or regulates the trading of, goods and services is a business. We also include organisations that represent specific industries or business and commerce in general.

FINANCE ORGANISATIONS Return to Top (Go to top)

The business of banking, investing, insuring, trading stocks and shares, and regulating markets is what we call "finance".
